Capital Improvement Accomplishments
Thanks to our very generous donors who have contributed throughout the years, below you will find the capital improvements that have been accomplished with these funds.
2021 – Earthquake Recuperation
In the summer of 2021, an earthquake that registered 7.1 happened in Southwestern Haiti. This is the location of the farms where there was considerable damage and destruction. Many lives were lost, and schools, hospitals, and homes were destroyed. The area where the Planting for Hope and Future farms are located was hard hit. PHF helped their people by giving bags of food to those who were displaced as well as repairing the homes that belong to the five farm managers. This would never have happened without our partners and generous donors stepping up to help during this crisis.
2020- 2021 – Wells Dug
Wells were dug on three farms to begin the process of incorporating a complete irrigation system for each farm that will also service the other farms that are close in proximity.
2023 – Irrigation System, Trenches Dug, Pipes Laid
The beginning of the Irrigation System began by digging trenches to lay the pipes underground. A trench was even dug across the road that leads to two other farms.
2023- Solar Panels and Pump Installed to Well
Receiving the solar panels and pump was a tremendous gift. All were extremely excited to receive them. Then for PHF the work began, figuring out how to install the big solar panels so they wouldn’t be a target for theft. Much careful thought and planning went into this process. It was decided that the panels would be erected on a very tall and stable metal pole. Just another example of how clever and resourceful the Haitian people are.
2023 – A Sprinkling System was installed to finish the irrigation system.
Sprinklers were purchased in the States and sent to Haiti. It was very exciting to see the end result, and have water reaching the fruit trees. Getting wet was a great part of finishing a very big job.
2023 – Feeding Program
The need for food all over Haiti is great, and the men of PHF wanted their farms could help. For four weeks, two times a week, they began a feeding program, incorporating the healthy plant Moringa that they grow on their farms to help boost the health of the most in need in their community. This program was greatly appreciated by the community members.
2023-2024 – Moringa Project
Moringa, called the “Tree of Life,” is one of the most nutritional plants in the world. It contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carbohydrates and fiber. It can benefit people with diabetes, increase milk for nursing mothers, as well as give more energy to individuals who use this supplement in their diets. It is a drought resistant plant and easy to grow. The men of Planting for Hope and Future grew this tree on their farms and knew it would be of great benefit to those suffering from malnutrition. During the period of 2023 and 2024, they have grown over 8000 Moringa seedlings, and given it to over 800 families in the area of the farms as well as more further to reach areas. PHF provided education on how to grow the plant and how to prepare it, and follow-up was provided to help the families grow these saplings in their own gardens. This program began after the Feeding program, knowing this would be a more sustainable way for PHF to help their community. It has been a well-received program with community leaders giving wonderful comments from those who were participants.
2024 – Educating the Community about Moringa and New Technology
Educating local farmers, community members, and local universities.
