For the past 34 years she has worked in a variety of healthcare settings such as academic, public and private sectors as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife. She has been involved with many medical missions including working with the Cherokee Native Americans in Oklahoma, impoverished Americans in Athens, Ohio and several trips to Haiti, where she was instrumental in teaching Haitian physicians and midwives how to assess and treat women for cervical cancer.
Haiti has been part of Teresa’s heart since 2010 with her first mission trip with Epworth United Methodist Church (EUMC) after the terrible earthquake offering clinical care to pregnant Haitians. There she met with lay midwives and unexpectedly delivered a Haitian baby. It left an indelible imprint on her soul. So much so that in 2017 she completed her Doctoral research project in Hinche, Haiti.
As a past chair of the Missions Committee @ Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio; a partnership was forged between Epworth and H4H for ongoing financial support which remains ongoing.
Teresa has a compassionate heart for everyone, but especially for those who are marginalized, live in poverty and are are at high risk for health issues.
